About the Department

Civil Engineering at Mattu University is one of the departments established under the College of Engineering and Technology in 2004 E.C. with only two staff members and 56 number of students of the first batch. But, gradually both the number of staff members and students are quickly increasing; now the department is playing its roles with number of 27 academic staffs, 84 undergraduate of students (Both regular and weekend program) and 30 Post graduates (Both regular and weekend program). 

The department is focused on having best vision, mission and goals to be more important for the centre of innovation and creativity, research and partnership with local and global communities. Generally, Civil Engineering is a backbone, and very important department that can produce creative and professional generations which can involve in the planning, designing, operations, constructions, and maintenances of different infrastructures such as buildings, highways, streets, dams, railways, air ports, tunnels, bridges, culverts, and others in order to facilitate the social, economic, and political development of one country. Specially, among 8 round graduated class from our staff around 95% students were obtained the job opportunities in government, NGO and Micro-Enterprise Sectors at different woredas, zones, and regions of Ethiopian Country.

HoD's Message

Civil Engineering is one of the most important stream among departments established under the College of Engineering and Technology at Mattu University in 2004 E.C. with only two staff members and 56 number of students of the first batch. Based on this, we have working on producing active and creative professional generations that build good skills and knowledges that can help them to involve in planning, designing, operation, constructions, and maintenance of different infrastructures like building, highway, tunnels, streets, dams, culverts, Irrigations, bridges, and others. 

Similarly, our students those who were graduated among the eight rounds from Mattu University have good job opportunities in different sectors of government, NGO and team works like Micro-Enterprises to facilitate the social, economic, and political development of our country, Ethiopia as well as they have changed their life based on the skills and knowledges that they have obtained theoretically and practically from Civil Engineering profession during their studying. Not only these advantages, they could have also gotten the National and International competent in innovations, researches, community services, and others scholarship for their further studying in different University of the World.   

Therefore, as a head of department we should have to initiate our students and stake holders in order to produce competent and creative generations by the Civil Engineering  professions that have great roles in the site works of different infrastructures and offices of at the country and worldwide levels.

Vision

To be a center of academic excellence of innovation and creativity, conduct useful research and community service performance where Civil Engineers capable of solving problems at 2034 G.C.

Having appropriate well-developed vision is the best fundamental for our goals. Therefore, vision is the power by which human beings create and innovate new things. The following two famous peoples say that;
